Ein Habitatbaum ist ein Baum, der mindestens ein Baummikrohabitat trägt. Baummikrohabitate sind klar abgegrenzte Habitatstrukturen, die von teilweise hochspezialisierten Arten oder Artengemeinschaften während zumindest eines Teils ihres Lebenszyklus genutzt werden.

Un arbre-habitat est un arbre qui porte au moins un dendromicrohabitat. Un dendromicrohabitat est une singularité morphologique portée par un arbre et qui est utilisée par des espèces parfois hautement spécialisées, au moins durant une partie de leur cycle de vie.

The European Red List is a review of the status of European species according to IUCN regional Red Listing guidelines. It identifies those species that are threatened with extinction at the regional level – in order that appropriate conservation action can be taken to improve their status.

If the cedars of Lebanon could take they would tell a story of human greed and ignorance going all the way back to the Epic of Gilgamesh. With Gilgamesh's well-documented exploitation of the cedar forests began the age of the conspicuous consumption of Lebanon's natural resources -- which proved so popular that the destruction never stopped but in fact worsened as one civilization was defeated and another took its place.

Tropical forests are threatened world-wide. Therefore, there is a search for ways to use the forests in a sustainable way, as this could assist in the conservation of these special ecosystems. Non-timber products collected from trees in tropical forests are often mentioned as examples of sustainable exploitation. Their collection causes far less disturbance to forest structure and functioning than the felling of trees for timber.
