The islands to the south of New Zealand consist of six widely separated groups, situated between the parallels of 48° and 55° S. lat. and 159° and 179° E. long. This volume contains information about these islands.

McNab, Minister of Lands, and urged upon him the desirability of extending the magnetic survey of New Zealand to the various groups of islands lying to the south of the mainland, and suggested that in the event of this being done advantage should be taken of the opportunity to further investigate the geology, zoology, and botany of these islands.
