Wetlands are among the world’s most productive and valuable ecosystems and are an integral part of many ecosystems. This book attempts to raise awareness on the relevance of wetland systems and their current impacts and existency threats in different regions of the world. It aims at describing the status, challenges and loss of wetlands related to conflicts between anthropic activities and natural ecosystem services fundamental for people’s livelihoods.
Governance is a crucial factor in the equity, effectiveness and sustainability of forest landscape restoration (FLR). The Restoration Opportunities Assessment Methodology (ROAM) provides a framework for governments, rights-holders and stakeholders to define and prioritise FLR options. This publication presents lessons learned and offers recommendations on governance aspects of the ROAM framework and process. It aims to reinforce the ability of ROAM to inform effective, equitable and sustainable FLR.
A successful process to advance forest landscape restoration (FLR) needs to motivate, enable and resource its implementation. This brief offers a preliminary exploratory analysis of some of the range of policies that respond to each of these three requirements.
For forest landscape restoration (FLR) to be sustainable and responsive to multiple developmental and environmental needs, we need dialogue and coordination among sectors, actors and institutions. FLR initiatives involve a web of multiple and diverse stakeholder groups and sectors – such as (sub) national governments, agricultural and forestry companies, research institutions, NGOs, traditional communities, landowners and companies – with diverse and often conflicting interests and priorities.
