Este documento propone un conjunto de principios y lineamientos que actúen como el fundamento para la planeación de la AbE. La intención es que éstos sean usados durante la planeación nacional de adaptación por parte de instituciones financieras y durante el diseño de proyectos e investigación.

This paper is a summary of a longer and fully referenced document by the same authors. These draft guidelines were developed by this group at a workshop and meeting held in Costa Rica in June 2011 to initiate a more formal and iterative process for Ecosystem Based Adaptation Guidelines which can be discussed at various international and regional events.

This document proposes a series of draft principles and guidelines that were produced at a workshop with participation of its authors in June 2011, with the aim to serve as a foundation for planning ecosystem-based approaches to adaptation. The principles are intended to be used by decision makers in national policy in national, territorial and sector planning initiatives, in financial planning, and in project and research design.

Las discusiones sobre la protección de los conocimientos tradicionales tienen implicaciones directas en áreas estratégicas de la economía y la política, como el uso sostenible y el manejo de la biodiversidad, la seguridad alimentaria, la salud pública, el comercio internacional, la responsabilidad y la ética empresarial, los derechos humanos, la investigación científica, la distribución de la riqueza.

With climate change now a certainty, the question is now how much change there will be and what can be done about it. One of the answers is through adaptation. Many of the lessons that are being learned in adaptation are from success stories from the field. This publication contains eleven case studies covering different ecosystems and regions around the world.

El análisis y la interacción con socios involucrados en transacciones relacionadas con servicios ambientales y políticas y leyes conexas en los últimos 10 años, han evidenciado una clara necesidad de comprender mejor los marcos jurídicos e institucionales que tienen el potencial de favorecer o entorpecer el desarrollo de regímenes de pagos por servicios ambientales (PSA), así como las complejas consideraciones jurídicas que afectan a los proyectos de servicios ambientales.

Analysis and engagement with partners working on ecosystem services transactions, policies and laws over the past 10 years have demonstrated a clear need to better understand the legal and institutional frameworks that have the potential to promote or hinder the development of payments for ecosystem services (PES) schemes, as well as the complex legal considerations that affect ecosystem services projects.

This report, compiled by 85 experts from across the world, reveals that nearly half of all primate species are now in danger of becoming extinct from destruction of tropical forests, illegal wildlife trade and commercial bushmeat hunting. The list includes five primate species from Madagascar, six from Africa, 11 from Asia, and three from Central and South America, all of which are the most in need of urgent conservation action.

La publicación "Prácticas ancestrales y derecho de aguas: de la tensión a la coexistencia", es el resultado de un proyecto de investigación dirigido por el Centro de Derecho Ambiental de UICN en colaboración con la Comisión de Derecho Ambiental. Esto proyecto tuvo tiene por objeto documentar algunas de las prácticas locales más significativas en materia de aguas en cuatro países de América Latina: Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala y Paraguay.
