Las áreas protegidas constituyen un elemento fundamental de las estrategias de conservación de la biodiversidad, la geodiversidad y el paisaje. En Francia, las áreas protegidas ocupan en la actualidad cerca del 20% del área terrestre y movilizan a numerosos actores institucionales. La presente publicación pretende dar a conocer el sistema francés de áreas protegidas.

Protected areas are an essential part of biodiversity, geodiversity and landscape conservation strategies. In France, protected areas cover nearly 20% of land area and involve numerous stakeholders. This publication describes the French system of protected areas. We hope it will help the reader better understand the essential contribution of these mechanisms to the protection of France's natural heritage, land management and, more broadly, sustainable development. 

Le dispositif juridique français demande aujourd'hui à certaines entreprises de faire figurer dans leurs documents de reporting des informations relatives à la biodiversité. L'objectif est d'informer leurs parties prenantes des relations qu'elles entretiennent avec la biodiversité et des actions qu'elles engagent dans ce domaine.

Some companies are currently required by French legislation to include information on biodiversity in their reports, the aim being to inform their stakeholders about the company’s commitment to biodiversity conservation. However, these reporting documents vary in content, form and method, and some companies admit that they have difficulty writing their biodiversity reporting documents. This study is thus designed to improve companies’ biodiversity reporting methodologies and approaches.

As our cities continue to grow, we should defend the protection of natural areas and even try to create new space for nature within this urban fabric. This volume explains the context and concept of urban protected areas, profiles urban protected areas in 15 metropolitan areas around the world, and offers best practice guidelines.
