This report, two years in the making, provides a comprehensive assessment of progress being made towards SFM in each ITTO producer member country and identifies the challenges remaining. Key findings include that the area deemed to be under sustainable management has grown by 50% over the past 5 years but that several countries continue to struggle to make the transition to sustainability in their tropical forests.

Ce plan d'action définit une stratégie de conservation des gorilles et des  chimpanzés en Afrique équatoriale occidentale. Le gorille de plaine de l'Ouest Gorilla gorilla gorilla et le chimpanzé d'Afrique centrale Pan troglodytes troglodytes connaissent un déclin spectaculaire à cause du braconnage, des maladies et de la disparition de l'habitat dus à la demande de viande de brousse, une application insuffisante des lois, la corruption et une bien plus grande facilité d'accès à des habitats autrefois isolés.

La chasse de viande de brousse représente l’une des grandes menaces pour les écosystèmes forestiers mondiaux. Outre l’utilisation d’approches descendantes (telles que l’application des lois nationales sur la chasse), les projets visant à promouvoir de nouveaux moyens de subsistance ont été mis en œuvre à l’échelle communautaire dans le but de réduire la chasse à travers la fourniture de protéines et de revenus de remplacement de ceux fournis par la viande de brousse.

Bushmeat hunting represents one of the biggest threats to tropical forest ecosystems. In addition to the use of top-down approaches (such as the enforcement of national hunting laws), alternative livelihood projects have been implemented at the community level with the aim of reducing hunting through the provision of protein and income substitutes to wild meat. However, evidence of the impact of these projects on hunting practices and species populations has yet to be collated and reviewed.

The action plan lays out a conservation strategy for gorillas and chimpanzees in Western Equatorial Africa. The Endangered central chimpanzee Pan troglodytes troglodytes and the Critically Endangered western lowland gorilla Gorilla gorilla gorilla are undergoing a dramatic decline due to poaching, disease and habitat loss, driven by demands for bushmeat, a lack of law enforcement, by corruption, and by increased access to their once-remote habitat -- like the recent expansion of industrial agriculture. This document is the product of the second regional workshop on conservati

Ce rapport présente les résultats de deux études thématiques: d’une part le potentiel écologique pour l'identification des corridors dans la zone APT (Aire Protégée Transfrontalière) du Mayombe et, d’autre part, le potentiel écologique pour la délimitation d’AP (Aires Protégées) au sein même de l’APT (Aire Protégée Transfrontalière) du Mayombe.

A elaboração do Plano estratégico dos ecossistemas florestais do Mayombe está baseada na estrutura geral utilizada no Plano estratégico da Rede das áreas protegidas transfronteiriças do Albertine Rift Central (2006). No entanto, este documento está adaptado és condições especificas, as ameaças e prioridades identificadas, e a disponibilidade das informações sobre a iniciativa florestal do Mayombe. A fase inicial desta iniciativa também está tomada em conta. Desta forma, as lições aprendidas com a experiência de outras ACT/APT na região foram assimiladas.

This strategic plan is adapted to the Mayombe forest initiative’s specific conditions, identified threats and priorities, and information availability. Lessons learned from other experience of other TFCAs/TPAs in the region were also assimilated.

L'élaboration du Plan stratégique transfrontalier des écosystèmes forestiers du Mayombe est basée sur la structure générale utilisée dans le Plan stratégique du Réseau des aires protégées transfrontalières du Rift Albertin central (2006). Toutefois, ce document est adapté aux conditions spécifiques, aux menaces et prioritées identifiées, et à la disponibilité des informations concernant l'initiative forestière du Mayombe. L'étape initiale de cette initiative est également prise en considération.
