A critical component in ensuring effective environmental governance is the existence of a vigilant civil society which can activate relevant statutory agencies to enforce environmental policy and legislation. Lawyers are in a special position to provide leadership in this domain, although the lack of formal training in environmental law and policy advocacy in this region has highlighted the need to provide some.

Part I looks at community issues and Part II looks at the broad framework of policy and legislation intended to advance farmers' and breeders' rights at both national and international level. The summary provides recommendations, as well as action plans and strategies for the implementation of the international instruments.

This handbook provides information on the business case for biodiversity, as well as current biodiversity issues for business, and guidance on corporate biodiversity strategies. The current status of the debate is illustrated by specific case stories, thus providing an opportunity for companies to highlight their renewed commitment to an issue of high importance.

This set of 20 4-page briefs aims to raise awareness about biodiversity issues within EC development cooperation. The briefs are broken down into three types, including policy, sector and background biodiversity briefs. The first two indicate important issues to be considered by policy makers and technical advisers at policy, programme and project levels, and the third category summarizes topics and legal responsibilities for a general audience.

The Ministry of Education and Sports of His Majesty's Government of Nepal places high importance on the need for imparting environmental education to all school children. This publication describes a three-year pilot study undertaken to compare the level of knowledge that students have before and after taking a course in population and environmental concerns. It is hoped that the positive results of this study will promote future endeavours in this area.
