Biosphere reserves in tropical America

A biosphere reserve is a protected area that seeks to unite people and nature, demonstrating that the two can live together in harmony. The five reserves featured were chosen because each embodies different characteristics of an ideal biosphere reserve. These reserves are described by local people, farmers, biologists, teachers, park guards, whose personal stories demonstrate that, human needs can indeed be reconciled with conservation in the tropics.
