Describe the results/achievements of the activities
Based on the analysis carried out in 2018, IUCN is developing Guidelines for Planning and Monitoring Corporate Biodiversity Performance that will steer businesses through a series of simple, practical steps to plan biodiversity mitigation and conservation measures, to choose and apply appropriate biodiversity indicators, and to collect, present, and analyse data in a way that facilitates results-based management and corporate biodiversity reporting. The guidelines will underline the importance of setting corporate biodiversity goals, since planning is a key prerequisite for monitoring. They will also explain how, by choosing and using appropriate core indicators and building internal capacity and partnerships, companies can aggregate and use biodiversity data in a meaningful way. The emphasis throughout will be on gaining a full picture of corporate biodiversity performance from sites and supply chains to the global level. The IUCN guidelines will be developed based on experiences in the conservation science and practice community, lessons learned from IUCN projects with businesses, and following expert input from IUCN programmes, commissions, members, and partner companies. They are also going to be tested with a number of companies. They will be launched at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in 2020.
This grant will help complete the Guidelines, which IUCN started developing in 2018, with funding from Enel, Nespresso and Boskalis. The Guidelines will build on the lessons learned during the tests and likely include case studies of the most relevant lessons.
