Decent work in Nature-based Solutions 2022

Complete Title:
Decent work in Nature-based Solutions 2022
IUCN Publication

Organization(s):

Abstract:

Given their potential to deliver a wide range of socio-economic benefits and services while also combatting  climate change and addressing biodiversity loss, Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are increasingly seen as a way to meet the objectives of several global agreements. This report explores two approaches to assessing work in NbS. The first approach is to propose the integration of existing data and possibly new sources of data  based on existing statistical standards and guidance for the improved statistical measurement of the quantity  and quality of work in NbS. The second approach makes use of both existing data sources and modelling  tools, and tries to find ways around the application problem by focusing on sectors where it is easier to  determine whether work is likely to count as NbS, combined with a readiness to make assumptions where  information is incomplete. The two approaches are complementary. The report Decent work in Nature-based Solutions underscores the need for a “Just Transition” - greening the economy in a way that is fair and inclusive, creating meaningful work opportunities and leaving no one behind.
