In 2002, a detailed situation analysis of water and environmental issues was done for the Pangani Basin. Following that, a series of pilot projects funded by the Water and Nature Initiative (WANI) of IUCN and by DFID led to the development of a Pangani River Basin Management Project (PRBMP) that continued until 2011. In the final phase of the project, climate change was investigated further. The most up-to-date predictions of climate change were used to re-run three of the scenarios with climate change added. By comparing the three scenarios with and without climate change, the additional changes that could occur simply because of climate became apparent. This report summarises the findings. After providing background information on the project, the mandates of the Pangani Basin Water Office and Board, and the hydrology of the basin, it describes the different scenarios and outlines the approach used to develop them.
