Aggregate Industries UK, a subsidiary of Holcim, restores ecosystems as part of its quarrying operations. In support of a request to extend an existing quarry in North Yorkshire, the company proposed to create a mix of wetlands for wildlife habitat as well as an artificial lake for recreation, following the extraction of sand and gravel from land currently used for agriculture. Stakeholders were consulted to determine their preferences for restoration.
A knowledge management study was undertaken in the IUCN Eastern and Southern Africa Region by Rod Abson, Science and Knowledge Management Officer in the Science and Knowledge Management Unit of IUCN from the 18th of June to 1st of July 2011.
This Facilitator Manual has been written to support a 2.5 - 3 day workshop that has as one of its goals helping a team or group of people to understand better the parts of the system in which they work in order to make thoughtful recommendations for strategic intervention points - points at which they can have a maximum impact with the most focused (and hopefully the least amount of) effort.
This report describes and reports on IUCN's participation in the 22nd World Scouts Jamboree, which took place in Rinkady, Sweden, 25 July-8 August 2011. An invitation to participate was extended to the Young Professionals Leadership Team of the CEC to identify people who could join the IUCN team to the Jamboree. A planning team was created consisting of Rod Abson, Ivana Savic (CEC Member) and Andres Morales (CEC Member).
