This report documents the proceedings of the Mekong Region Waters Dialogue: Exploring Water Futures Together, held in Vientiane, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on 6 and 7 July 2006. The Dialogue was a regional multi-stakeholder platform organised to provide an opportunity for a high-quality, multi-faceted debate and learning that will contribute to improving water governance in the Mekong Region.

This study focused specifically on one perceived opportunity for developing IPES, namely the concept of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD). REDD refers to any conservation or sustainable land-use initiative that effectively mitigates a real deforestation/degradation threat in a given area.

The situation analysis studies assessed the current water governance frameworks encompassing policies, legal and regulatory frameworks, and institutional and decision-making aspects, for the three countries. The studies were used to assist the NWGs by identifying the key water governance issues for each country, providing recommendations on relevant dialogue topics for 2009 and 2010 and highlighting the scope for improving water governance.

El análisis y la interacción con socios involucrados en transacciones relacionadas con servicios ambientales y políticas y leyes conexas en los últimos 10 años, han evidenciado una clara necesidad de comprender mejor los marcos jurídicos e institucionales que tienen el potencial de favorecer o entorpecer el desarrollo de regímenes de pagos por servicios ambientales (PSA), así como las complejas consideraciones jurídicas que afectan a los proyectos de servicios ambientales.

C'est dans ce contexte que la présente étude, portant sur l'analyse de l'apport de ce label pour la conservation et sur les priorités de gestion de ces biens naturels, a été réalisée par le Programme Aires Protégées de l'UICN (UICN-Papaco), sur financement du Fonds Français pour l'Environnement Mondial (FFEM) et du Fonds Africain pour le Patrimoine Mondial (AWHF).

La acuicultura se enfrenta en la actualidad a un reto importante; suplir la creciente demanda de productos marinos de calidad, aliviando a su vez la presión que las flotas pesqueras ejercen sobre los caladeros. El propósito de esta guía es promover el desarrollo sostenible de la acuicultura mediterránea proporcionando directrices básicas para la correcta selección y gestión de emplazamientos de acuicultura.
