The Vietnam Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) was developed by the Ministry of Forestry and the State Committee of Science, in collaboration with WWF and UNDP. I was published in 1994 and approved by the government in 1995. This workshop was a critical assessment of the BAP's three years of implementation.
The sustainable exploitation of edible nest swiftlets (Collocalia fuciphaga germani) has been achived without external aid or expertise and is an important source of revenue for Vietnam. This book retraces the history of edible swiftlet nest production and trade (including the latest trade figures), examines the biological research conducted, and details the working practices used to enhance the conservation of swiftlets in Vietnam.
The tools of environmental economics are not as well-known in Asia as they should be. This volume seeks to fill this gap by building understanding in this important area and showing policy-makers how these tools can contribute to resolving important questions in South Asian development. The book begins with an overview paper explaining what economists think about the environment and introduces the tools of valuation, cost-benefit analysis and environmental accounting.
