A strategy for addressing issues of aquatic invasive alien species in the Lower Mekong Basin

Like most natural ecosystems across Asia, the wetlands in the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB) are under threat from various human activities and from invasive alien species (IAS). Currently, major pathways for introduction of IAS in the region include aquaculture, horticultural and ornamental fish trades. Dams, urbanisation, expansion of agriculture, trans-boundary road development and other rapid development activities are exacerbating the spread of IAS. This report recommends strategic responses to address issues related to aquatic IAS in the LMB.

Socioeconomic and ecological monitoring toolkit : Huraa Mangrove Nature Reserve

In this toolkit, we focus on both human (socioeconomic) and biophysical (ecological) aspects of monitoring. Socioeconomic monitoring normally focuses on people’s knowledge and attitude towards an ecosystem as well as their natural resource use and dependence. Ecological monitoring on the other hand will generally focus on a specific species or ecosystem, using supporting information on environmental conditions and associated organisms.

Children's perception of the environment : a teacher's toolkit for investigating coastal and marine ecosystems in Asia

The goal of this toolkit is to help promote environmental stewardship and increase awareness of marine and coastal ecosystems among schoolchildren in Asia through the use of creative, investigative approaches. Investigative approaches allow schools to make the local environment relevant and interesting to children in coastal communities and help to reinforce the need for wise and sustainable management of our coastal and marine resources.

Integrating environmental safeguards into disaster management : a field manual. Volume 3 : tools, techniques and relevant resources

Increasing incidence and intensity of natural disasters and climate change are having over-arching impacts on the environment. Sustainable development is being undermined. Ecological services and their indirect economic values are frequently omitted from assessments. Mainstreaming ecosystem concerns – both ecological and economical – and integrating them into disaster management is essential. This multi-volume manual attempts to provide background information and guidance for integrating environmental concerns into disaster management.

Managing marine and coastal protected areas : a toolkit for South Asia

Marine and Coastal Protected Areas (MCPAs), in their variety of forms and scales, are seen as one of the solutions to threats facing the coastal and marine environment, while contributing to the long-term sustainable livelihoods of coastal communities, their cultures and their economies. This Toolkit will assist MCPA managers and practitioners to access current and consolidated information and guidance relating to all stages of MCPA establishment and management issues faced in day-to-day operations.
