Technical review of the environmental impact assessment for the Rufiji hydropower project in Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania

This rapid technical review assesses the “Updated Environmental Impact Assessment Report for 2100 MW Power Generation from the Rufiji Hydropower Project in Selous Game Reserve, Pwani and Morogoro regions, Tanzania” of 18 October 2018 that relates to a planned hydropower project to be built at Stiegler’s Gorge in the north of Selous Game Reserve. The project will involve construction of a 130m high dam on the Rufiji river, creation of a 100km long, c.914km2 reservoir plus a power plant, a transmission line, workers camps and access roads. International expert workshop "World Heritage and climate change – Towards the update of the Policy document on the impacts of climate change on World Heritage properties"

The meeting brought together 20 international heritage experts on climate change from 15 countries with the aim of discussing the update of the Policy Document on the Impacts of Climate Change on World Heritage Properties, adopted by the General Assembly of States Parties to the World Heritage Convention in 2007. The expert group was tasked to discuss the implementation to date of the 2007 policy document, the potential contents of an updated policy and to provide inputs to the further process.

The advisory body "Our Common Dignity Initiative" on rights-based approaches in World Heritage: taking stock and looking forward

This document presents the key results of the Our Common Dignity initiative on rights and World Heritage undertaken by the Advisory Bodies to the World Heritage Convention (ICCROM, ICOMOS and IUCN) under the coordination of ICOMOS Norway between 2011 and 2016. The report describes and discusses work carried out by the Advisory Bodies during this period, and should not be seen as their final words nor their entire institutional opinion on this topic.

World heritage, wilderness, and large landscapes and seascapes

This thematic study focuses on the contribution the World Heritage Convention can make to wilderness conservation around the world. It provides pragmatic guidance to the Convention and its many partners for strengthening protection of wilderness by promoting the profound linkages between culture and wild nature.
