Climate change

Developed through a literature review and individual consultations with experts and validated through an experts' workshop, this white paper considers the  most recent work on the intersection of gender and energy. It intends to demonstrate that gender equality can be a driver for more effective clean energy investments, and that this gender lens can be applied at every level of the energy value chain.

Globally, disasters due to natural hazards takes an enormous toll in terms of human lives, destruction to crops and livelihoods, and economic losses. Disaster risk reduction (DRR) has therefore become a critical part of sustainable development strategies. Over the past decades, the role of healthy ecosystems in providing cheap, reliable protection against natural hazards has been increasingly recognized.

This book documents the "Implementing a Resilience Framework to Support Climate Change Adaptation in the Mt. Elgon Region of the Lake Victoria Basin" project, which was funded by USAID and implemented by the IUCN Uganda Office. 

The recent increase in exposure to natural hazards among the communities of Bangladesh is linked to the new generation of threats posed by climate variability and change resulting from anthropogenic activity. Adaptation is not a new approach, but there are still a number of challenges inherent in adaptation and in building resilience to climate-induced threats.

In February 2014, RECOFTC - The Center for People and Forests in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) brought together 11 climate change and forestry experts in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The panel of experts discussed the key outcomes of negotions for the 19th Conference of Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in Warsaw, Poland, 11-22 November 2013.

Wetlands have been the focus of conservation and restoration efforts for over a century, and governments, international actors (NGOs and academia) and local communities around the world are now increasingly engaging in wetland restoration or avoiding wetland degration activities for climate change mitigation.
