Estas directrices abordan la planificación y la gestión de áreas bajo protección privada (APP). Las orientaciones están dirigidas principalmente a responsables del diseño de políticas públicas, o bien, profesionales que están o podrían estar vinculados con APPs.

Within a landscape of overlapping ecological, social and economic priorities, there exists a fundamental need to balance the land use dynamics of natural resource management with environmental and livelihood considerations. However, in striving to reach such a balance, people and local institutions are often excluded or forgotten.

The present volume should be read in conjunction with State of nature conservation systems in South-Eastern Europe as it represents its integral part and foundation. Both reports follow the same logic and structure, and their content is presented through the same thematic chapters. 

The assessment includes a global review of literature and legal information on international and national law and policy, a desk assessment of mangrove-related legal instruments in India, Kenya and Mexico, and an in-depth evaluation of effectiveness of mangrove-related law in Costa Rica, Madagascar and Vietnam.

Mangroves are among the most important ecosystems on the planet. They provide nursery grounds for a wide variety of marine and landbased species, sustain livelihoods of coastal populations, and protection from ocean swell and extreme weather events. However, mangroves are being cleared, degraded, or lost at a rapid pace. This report is targeted at project developers, donors and investors.

This report is the first comprehensive attempt to collate all the relevant information on institutional arrangements for nature conservation in the region into one coherent report. It aims to review the health of the national nature conservation systems, their suitability for purpose, the main gaps and opportunities in delivering on the many national and international policy targets, and their coherency with respect to addressing regional commonalities and priorities.

These guidelines address planning and management of privately protected areas (or PPAs) and the guidance is aimed principally at practitioners and policy makers, who are or may be involved with PPAs. Guidance is given on all aspects of PPA establishment, management and reporting, and information is provided on principles and best practices, with examples drawn from many different parts of the world.

The Mediterranean region is one of the world’s great centres of plant diversity and its benign climates have attracted successive waves of civilisations, which have largely shaped our attitudes and ethics to the present day. Despite the effects of grazing, agriculture, deforestation, pollution, urbanisation and tourism, it has developed a wide array of plant landscapes.
