Este documento impulsa un proceso de incidencia estratégica para guiar las acciones de la UICN-Mesoamérica durante el 2006-2010. Es el resultado de un trabajo colectivo de reflexión y análisis institucional y del entorno, que pretende contribuir a la construcción de una sociedad en Mesoamérica más sostenible, donde se impulsen las alianzas entre los diversos sectores.
Este documento muestra el compromiso de la UICN-Mesoamérica durante cuatro años para desarrollar acciones que contribuyan a impactar el entorno convirtiéndose en el marco de referencia institucional para orientar el trabajo de sus áreas temáticas.
Biodiversity captured worldwide attention at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro when 150 nations signed the Convention on Biological Diversity. Although most countries by now have had some experience planning and implementing biodiversity-related measures, few have approached them in the comprehensive, integrated manner required by the Convention.
Viet Nam is a very beautiful country made up of mountains, forests, lush river deltas and wide expanses of coasts and beaches. But with one of the fastest growing economies in the world, Viet Nam is undergoing major changes. Viet Nam of the future will be very different from that of today, not only because of its rapid economic growth, but also due to the high vulnerability of its river deltas and coastlines to climate change.
This publication aims to contribute to planning and management approaches that minimize land degradation and desertification in arid and semi-arid zones as a result of extractive industries operations. Both operational and policy guidance are included to help those government departments responsible for the licensing, planning and monitoring of extractive industries activities to take account of environment and development issues in their decision-making.
