Forests

This book aims to introduce beach forest species and mangrove associates to researchers and the general public alike, and to describe their traditional and commercial uses based on recent research and older literature.

This book links the emerging concepts of complexity, complex adaptive system (CAS) and resilience to forest ecology and management. It explores how these concepts can be applied in various forest biomes of the world with their different ecological, economic and social settings, and history. Individual chapters stress different elements of these concepts based on the specific setting and expertise of the authors.

This publication presents a comprehensive analysis of the rights-based agenda in forestry, connecting it with existing work on tenure reform, governance rights and human rights. The attention to rights in forestry differs from 'rights-based approaches' in international development and other natural resource fields in critical ways. Above all, redistribution is a central demand of activists in forestry, but not in other fields.

The colour of carbon matters. Green carbon is the carbon stored in the plants and soil of natural ecosystems and is a vital part of the global carbon cycle. This report is the first in a series that examines the role of natural forests in the storage of carbon, the impacts of human land use activities, and the implications for climate change policy nationally and internationally.
