Governance

The coastal zone of West Africa extends approx. 6,000 km, from Mauritania in the north, passing through the deeply indented coasts of the islands and estuaries, then the lagoon coasts and the coastal strips of the Gulf of Guinea, up to Nigeria. The small island state of the Cabo Verde Islands, volcanic and mountainous, completes this geography. These coastal areas are characterized by globally significant biodiversity.

La zone côtière de l’Afrique de l’Ouest s’étend sur environ 6 000 km, depuis la Mauritanie au nord, en passant par les côtes  rofondément découpées des îles et des estuaires, puis les côtes lagunaires et les cordons littoraux du Golfe de Guinée, jusqu’au Nigéria. Le petit État insulaire des îles du Cabo Verde, volcanique et  montagneux, complète cette géographie. Ces zones côtières sont caractérisées par une biodiversité d’importance mondiale.

The coaching manual (COMIT) is for the second version of the Integrated Management Effectiveness Tool (IMET) and of coaching or professional support for protected area management teams. IMET is a decision-support tool intended to develop the planning-monitoring-evaluation process in order to improve protected area management effectiveness. It is suitable for all protected areas, regardless of their management and governance category.

Effective governance is a fundamental requisite for Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA). CLIMA is a practical tool to plan, execute, evaluate, and improve governance in the context of specific initiatives, actions and measures for climate change adaptation and ecosystem management. CLIMA helps generate recommendations for the development and implementation of action plans applied to situations at multiple spatial and temporal scales.

CLIMA es una herramienta practica para la planificacion, la implementacion, la evaluacion y la mejora de la gobernanza en el contexto de iniciativas, proyectos, acciones y medidas especfficas para la adaptacion al cambio climatico y la gestion de los ecosistemas.

Governance is a crucial factor in the equity, effectiveness and sustainability of forest landscape restoration (FLR). The Restoration Opportunities Assessment Methodology (ROAM) provides a framework for governments, rights-holders and stakeholders to define and prioritise FLR options. This publication presents lessons learned and offers recommendations on governance aspects of the ROAM framework and process.

Land is the basis of human life. With climate change, the mass extinction of biological diversity and an often dysfunctional food system, we are experiencing three colliding global crises that are directly linked to the way we manage land. Orientação é dada em todos os aspectos do estabelecimento, gestão e comnunicação da PPA, e são fornecidas informações sobre princípios e melhores práticas, com exemplos retirados de muitas partes diferentes do mundo.

These guidelines address planning and management of privately protected areas (PPAs) and the guidance is aimed principally at practitioners and policy makers, who are or may be involved with PPAs. Guidance is given on all aspects of PPA establishment, management and reporting, and information is provided on principles and best practices, with examples drawn from many different parts of the world.
