Pacific marine climate change report card 2018
This report card provides a summary of climate change impacts on coasts and seas in the Pacific island region, and how Pacific islands can respond.

This resource material is designed as a generic guide for planning, implementing and reporting an integrated vulnerability assessment (IVA) that targets atoll communities in the Pacific Islands region. It is based on a sustainable livelihoods-based approach that combines the assessment of vulnerability to both climate change and disasters.
‘Invasive species’ (often called pests, weeds and diseases) are plants, animals, disease agents and other organisms taken beyond their natural range by people, deliberately or unintentionally, and which become destructive to the environment or human livelihoods. Islands are particularly vulnerable to invasive species, owing to the evolution of their native animals and plants in isolation from predators and diseases, and the dependence of island peoples on imports, travel and tourism, which lead to high rates of arrival of new pests.
A wide ranging, comprehensive, and multi-disciplinary study, this is the first book that focuses on the challenges posed by climate change impacts on the all small island developing states, not just those in a specific region. As the global effects of climate change become increasingly evident and urgent, it is clear that the impact on small islands is going to be particularly severe. Small island developing states emit only small amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
Introduced mammalian predators are one of the greatest threats to wildlife worldwide; this is especially so at the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia. This publication reports on the conclusion of the five-year (2011-2015) operational phase of the eradication of rodents from South Georgia, undertaken to restore the millions of seabirds (and other species) lost to rats over the last 240 years.
