This Manual is first and foremost a community tool to facilitate implementation of Ghana’ s National Wildfire Management Policy. However it will also serve as an instrument for fire management trainers in communities with little experience in fire management and for consultation by professionals, students, policy makers, practitioners and communities when faced with fire related problems and incidents.

The aim of this manual is to strengthen the community of practitioners who are using an innovative range of visual techniques in dealing with conservation and development situations. Visualization techniques are used to compare visions of stakeholders and to negotiate trade-offs through comparing these visions. Different visualization techniques are already widely used and several of these are discussed in this manual.

This guide draws inspiration from the impressive volume Sharing Power, published by the IUCN/CEESP and IIED. The guide provides what we hope to be a convenient synthesis of the main phases of a shared-governance process for Marine Protected Areas (MPA) in West Africa.

There is a real need for all those who are involved in making and implementing decisions –- including central government planners and policymakers, local government administrators, civil society and the private sector –- to understand the basic concepts and principles of governance and be able to apply them in their daily work.

In 2007, IUCN, UNDP, UNEP and WEDO recognized the need for a coordinated strategy among global institutions working on gender and climate change. The result was the establishment of the Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA). The primary goal of the GGCA is to ensure that climate change policies, decision making, and initiatives at the global, regional and national levels are gender-responsive.
