This volume was compiled in 1998 to communicate the science and scholarship of tenure to policy makers and decision makers around the world. It represents a snapshot of the issue of tenure and sustainable use by a number of leading practitioners and academics in the field. From conflict to collaboration : people and forests at Mount Elgon, Uganda

Describes a field-level assessment of how people living near the Mount Elgon National Park in Uganda use the park's forest resources. It argues that extractive use of a range of timber and non-timber forest products, if properly monitored and controlled, is not necessarily a threat to biodiversity. The book explains clearly which data gathering methods were chosen and why, and how the results of this assessment can be used to develop collaborative management agreements with local people.

The rattans of Nepal

This publication presents information on the identification, phytogeography, utilisation and promotional potentials of rattans in Nepal. It also highlights the status of rattan utilisation and conservation along with prospects for their cultivation and domestication. Rattan habitats in the sultry forest of terai and the damp gorges of deep rivers are being progressively reduced due to human encroachment. It is believed that this publication will contribute much to the conservation of the rattans in Nepal
