La cuenca del río Sixaola es compartarget_ida entre Costa Rica y Panamá. Desde el 2011, el proyecto BRIDGE: Construyendo Diálogos y Buena Gobernanza del Agua ha trabajado en promover una mejor cooperación alrededor de las aguas trasfronterizas, implementando un enfoque no convencional para la hidrodiplomacia. En este documento se resume el contexto socioeconómico de la cuenca, los arreglos institucionales existentes, la intervención del proyecto BRIDGE y los avances de la Comisión Binacional de la Cuenca del Río Sixaola.

The Sixaola River basin, Costa Rice and Panama : reaching agreements to strengthen transboundary cooperation

The Sixaola river basin is shared between Costa Rica and Panama. Since 2011, the BRIDGE project: Building River Dialogue and Governance has worked to promote better cooperation around transboundary waters, implementing a non-conventional approach for hydrodiplomacy. This document summarizes the socioeconomic context of the basin, existing institutional arrangements, interventions by the BRIDGE project and advances of the Binational Commission of the Sixaola River Basin.

Lake Titicaca Basin : Peru and Bolivia : enhancing transboundary cooperation through technical coordination and institutional reforms

Lake Titicaca exists within a fragile high altitude ecosystem shared between Bolivia and Peru. Since 2011, BRIDGE has been working in Lake Titicaca basin taking a non-conventional approach to water diplomacy promoting better cooperation. The region has a long history of technical expertise and water resource management with a transboundary institution established in 1993 on Lake Titicaca. Over the last two decades increasing development has put pressure on politicians to address necessary reforms of national and bi-national water institutions governing the basin.

The 3S river basin (Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam) : creating spaces for cooperation through multi-level dialogue and capacity building

The Sesan, Sre Pok, and Sekong rivers, referred to as the 3S river basin, are shared by three countries and constitute a significant part of the Lower Mekong river basin. The BRIDGE project implements water diplomacy in transboundary basins, and is working in the 3S to build and strengthen water governance capacity. The 3S river basin contains the only transboundary tributaries of the Mekong covering over 78,650 square kilometres.

Goascorán Basin : Honduras and El Salvador : revitalising cooperative management through expanding stakeholder involvement

The waters of the Goascorán River are shared between Honduras and El Salvador. Since 2011, BRIDGE has worked to promote better cooperation over transboundary waters, taking a non-conventional approach to water diplomacy. One of the challenges was the level of involvement in the institutional arrangement existing in the basin. The initial makeup of the Binational Management Group (BMG) had a limited representation of Municipalities only giving the institution a narrow scope and legitimacy with stakeholders.

Wasserrahmenrichtlinie und Natura 2000 : Gemeinsame Umsetzung in Deutschland und Österreich am Beispiel der Grenzflüsse Salzach und Inn

Die Wasserrahmenrichtlinie (Water Framework Directive), die Fauna-Flora-Habitatrichtlinie (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) und die Vogelschutz-richtlinie (Birds Directive) sind wesentliche Säulen einer europäischen Umweltpolitik. In und an Gewässern und in wasserabhängigen Lebensräumen überschneiden sich ihre Handlungsfelder. Die Notwendigkeit einer grenzüberschreitenden Naturschutz- und Wasserpolitik erfordert es, die Richtlinien einer gesamtheitlichen Betrachtung ihrer normativen Vorgaben, ihrer fachlichen Ziele und ihrer Umsetzungsschritte zu unterziehen.
