Sustainable agriculture

Overall, this thesis contributes to the understanding how marketing can help to solve sustainability problems in pastoral areas, in particular the Horn of Africa. It also contributes to the extension of marketing theories from high income countries to informal economies in emerging markets. This research therefore informs marketing researchers that marketing theory is generalizable to the informal economies such as pastoralists in emerging markets. The research also suggests to policy makers that creation of customer value can help to strengthen sustainability.

The new Annual Report series contains information on the activities of the International Whaling Commission during the previous year. In particular it will contain the Chairman's Report of the Annual Meeting. This summarises the important discussions and management actions taken by the Commission and is essential reading for all who are interested in the conservation of cetaceans.

Der Schutz und Erhalt der biologischen Vielfalt ist eine gesamtgesellschaftliche Auf-gabe. Dem Ökologischen Landbau mit seinem hohen Naturschutzpotenzial kommt hierbei eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Wo aber entstehen im Ökologischen Landbau überhaupt wesentliche Konflikte mit Naturschutzzielen und wo lohnt es sich, auf diese einzugehen? Welche Maßnahmen können die Lebensbedingungen der typischen Fauna und Flora der Agrarlandschaft langfristig erhalten und fördern? Welche Kosten entstehen für den Betrieb und wie sind auftretende Probleme zu lösen?

The key message of this publication is that the occurrence of the global economic and financial crisis and the interrelated climate, food, and water crises offers a window of opportunity to embark on a path of more resilient and sustainable economic growth. The key challenge is to avoid responding to the crises with measures that perpetuate economically, socially and environmentally unsustainable production and consumption patterns. The key opportunity is to seek ways to respond to the crises by identifying dynamic synergies to initiate change.

La degradación ambiental, producto de un conjunto de actividades económicas, entre ellas la agricultura, produce efectos negativos sobre la salud de las personas comprometiendo, de esta forma, el desarrollo sostenible. Éste es uno de los enfoques presentados en la publicación, como resultado de varios años de investigación adelantada por los autores, en tres localidades de producción agrícola venezolana.
