Sustainable management

The Mediterranean blue carbon strategy aims to establish a comprehensive framework for the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of blue carbon ecosystems, such as Posidonia oceanica meadows and other seagrasses. These ecosystems are vital for climate change mitigation, carbon storage, and providing essential services like biodiversity, coastal protection, and sustainable livelihoods.

In order to promote and augment regional initiatives on sustainable aquaculture, aquatic animal health and resource enhancement, and to consequently contribute to poverty alleviation, livelihood and food security, the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center/Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD) has held a 3-day workshop on the “Promotion of Sustainable Aquaculture, Aquatic Animal Health and Resource Enhancement in Southeast Asia (SARSEA)” on 25–27 June 2019 in Iloilo City, Philippines.

Esta metodología para la evaluación participativa de pastizales y tierras de pastoreo (denominada PRAGA) se desarrolló a través del proyecto "Evaluación participativa de la degradación de la tierra y la gestión sostenible de la tierra en sistemas de pastizales y pastos", financiado por el Fondo para el Medio Ambiente Mundial y ejecutado por FAO y la UICN. La metodología se probó en cinco países (Burkina Faso, Kenia, Kirguistán, Níger y Uruguay) para comprobar su eficacia y valor.

This participatory grassland and rangeland assessment (PRAGA) methodology was developed for the assessment of rangelands and grasslands in selected project countries.

Timely action to prevent, reduce and reverse land degradation can improve food and water security, contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation, and avoid conflicts and migration. In this regard, the initiative for land degradation neutrality promoted by the UNCCD should be highlighted.

Using the Columbia River Basin in the Pacific Northwest as a case study, Kai Lee describes the concept and practice of "adaptive management," as he examines the successes and failures of past and present management experiences.
