Esta publicación ofrece información sobre el estado de conservación de mamíferos y tortugas marinos que habitan en el Mediterráneo y el mar Negro. Cada especie ha sido clasificada previamente por la UICN a escala global y presentamos aquí los primeros resultados de la evaluación regional de las especies de cetáceos residentes en el mar Mediterráneo. También se centra en las principales amenazas que afectan a su supervivencia y crecimiento, y hace recomendaciones para preservarlas mejor.
This booklet presents information on the conservation status of the marine mammals and sea turtles that inhabit the Mediterranean and Black Seas. Each species has previously been classified by IUCN at global level and here we present the first results of the regional assessment for those cetacean species resident in the Mediterranean Sea. It also focuses on the main threats that affect their survival and growth and makes recommendations to better preserve them.
As part of a comprehensive strategy to highlight and help prioritize urgently needed conservation action for the most critically endangered turtles and tortoises in the world, the Turtle Conservation Coalition have highlighted the Top 25 most endangered species every four years since 2003. In this third installment, more than 25 species are covered and the information presented was provided by the coalition rather than solely by one or two organizations.
TRAFFIC Southeast Asia identified the Southeast Asian Box Turtle as a heavily traded species to be used as a case study for science-based management, which could serve as a model for other CITES Appendix II species in trade. This study aims to assess the legislation in place to regulate trade in freshwater turtles and tortoises and to identify past and current harvest and trade levels.
