Biodiversity loss

Die Fähigkeit von Städten als Landschaften zur Förderung biologischer Vielfalt gilt als einer der entscheidenden Schritte, um den globalen Verlust der Artenvielfalt aufzuhalten, und auch die beiden anderen Aspekte der drei planetaren Krisen, Klimawandel und Umweltverschmutzung, anzugehen. Der Bericht soll Möglichkeiten aufzeigen, wie Natur und Biodiversität durch Maßnahmen, die innerhalb der einzelnen Gebäudestruktur umgesetzt werden, auf Gebäudeebene integriert werden können.

Il est communément admis que transformer les villes en paysages à même de favoriser la biodiversité constitue l’une des étapes essentielles pour mettre fin à la perte de biodiversité et remédier en partie à deux autres aspects de la triple crise planétaire que nous vivons : le changement climatique et la pollution.

The capacity of cities as landscapes to support biodiversity is accepted as one of the critical steps necessary to halt global biodiversity loss and also address the other two aspects of the triple planetary crisis, climate change and pollution. The intent of the report is to communicate opportunities for the integration of nature and biodiversity into the building scale, through the measures implemented within the individual building structure.

The rapidly increasing human pressure on the biosphere is pushing biodiversity into the sixth mass extinction event in the history of life on Earth. The organisms being exterminated are integral working parts of our planet’s life support system, and their loss is permanent. Like climate change, this irreversible loss has potentially devastating consequences for humanity.

The circular economy is a positive step forward to help achieve our environmental targets. When implemented with nature in mind, it can present an important opportunity for nature and biodiversity. As outlined by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030 we will need to transform our production and consumption systems.

This report provides an overview of palm oil sustainability standards' measures to stop biodiversity loss and restore habitat for biodiversity conservation. It highlights critical areas that need to be improved and recommends specific actions for palm oil buyers and investors.
