Agricultural standards and associated certification schemes can play a critical role in mainstreaming biodiversity conservation within farming practices.
However, the diversity of standards and criteria makes it difficult to understand how effective they are in raising ambition for biodiversity conservation and delivering contributions to the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
To address this, 11 voluntary standards relevant to dsm-firmenich’s supply chains – and other buyers of natural ingredients across sectors – were assessed against biodiversity-specific criteria. This assessment aims to guide dsm-firmenich and other companies in understanding which criteria are important to deliver Nature Positive outcomes and how standards align with them. Additionally, the assessment aims to help standard bodies enhance their frameworks in alignment with the Nature Positive goal to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030 and achieve full recovery by 2050.
