This report focuses on the management of natural coastal carbon sinks. There is a lack of recognition and focus on coastal marine ecosystems to complement activities already well advanced on land to address the best practice management of carbon sinks.

The Strengthening Voices for Better Choices (SVBC) project is currently operating in six tropical forest countries (Brazil, Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Sri Lanka and Viet Nam). To allow key stakeholders to acquire the skills and knowledge that will allow them to participate more effectively in the development and implementation of new and improved forest governance arrangements, a capacity needs assessment (CNA) process for the six national components of SVBC was designed.

Tras la primera edición de este libro en el 2006, fue necesario proyectar una segunda reimpresión debido a su alta demanda. En esta segunda ocasión se ha avanzado en el concepto de gobernanza de aguas compartarget_idas, y se exploran nuevas alternativas de cooperación interestatal e institucional que ofrece el derecho internacional para una buena gestión de las cuencas hidrográficas compartarget_idas.

The January 2009 floods in Fiji were reported as the worst in the history of the country since the 1931 floods. Many parts of the country were affected by a number of consecutive flood events that spread over several days. This study was undertaken to assess the economic costs of the recent floods on the sugar cane farmers, sugar cane production and household livelihoods, and cane access roads and farm drainage infrastructure.

Drylands cover 41 percent of the earth’s terrestrial surface. The urgency of and international response to climate change have given a new place to drylands in terms both of their vulnerability to predicted climate change impacts and their potential contribution to climate change mitigation. This book aims to apply the new scientific insights on complex dryland systems to practical options for development.

Este informe presenta una revisión del estado de conservación de 165 especies de libélulas presentes en la cuenca del Mediterráneo, según los criterios de la Lista Roja regional de la UICN. En él se identifican las especies que están amenazadas de extinción a nivel regional a fin de que se puedan tomar las medidas apropiadas de conservación para mejorar su estado.
