Se recogen las experiencias del proyecto, conocido como “Proyecto Manglares” o “Manglares del Pacífico”. En él se hace un recorrido por los antecedentes del Proyecto, sus objetivos, las acciones realizadas, la incidencia de estas acciones sobre los problemas identificados, los principales logros y limitaciones, para finalmente, rescatar las lecciones aprendidas de esta experiencia. Este ejercicio tiene dos propósitos, uno, recuperar de manera crítica los diferentes aspectos mencionados anteriormente, y dos, presentar los principales aportes de esta experiencia. La recuperación de este trabajo se ha realizado por iniciativa e interés de la UICN/ORMA, particularmente del Área Temática de Humedales y Zonas Costeras.

A series of articles looks into the problems and controversies concerning tourism and nature. On the one hand tourism is dependent upon nature, on the other hand, however, it often destroys the natural and socio-cultural environment. In the first section representatives from relevant sectors involved with tourism and nature (tourists, environmentalists, governments and the tourism sector) express their views on the possibilities of sustainable tourism. A second section describes a number of relevant case studies (the Alps, rainforests and the Pan Parks initiative) and the third section looks into the necessity of information and education to make sustainable tourism feasible. It finishes with conclusions and recommendations

These guidelines explore financing options for protected areas and provide advice and information on sustainable financing. Both public and private financing is needed to ensure provision of the private and public goods and services which protected areas provide. A step-by-step process is given which protected area managers can use to create business and financial plans tailored to the needs and strengths of their protected area. Mechanisms are discussed for generating revenue flows from both public and private sources and an overview of potential grant-based sources of financing is given. It concludes with case studies demonstrating how protected area managers worldwide have developed cohesive funding strategies
