Papers presented at a symposium on the legal problems of the conservation of wetlands, jointly organized the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law and the Groupe des zones humides of the Société française pour le droit de lenvironnement. The meeting, attended by almost 100 participants representing 25 countries, was held in Lyon, France, in September 1987. General presentations of the international aspects of wetlands conservation and the functioning of the Convention are followed by individual case studies and country reports. A great amount of detail on administrative practices of selected countries was obtained through the use of a questionnaire, which is produced in an Annex to the book.
