El presente documento se focaliza en el estudio de estas áreas protegidas para describir las condiciones de cada uno de los paisajes, enfatizando en los costos, beneficios económicos y los impactos sociales y culturales que representan para las poblaciones locales. En cada caso, la participación de los gestores de las áreas protegidas que son parte de este estudio fue fundamental para comprender cuáles son los esfuerzos institucionales por compaginar conservación y desarrollo local.

En Los guardianes del bosque amazónica se busca resca­tar el aporte que las comunidades locales y los pueblos indígenas con sus saberes hacia la conservación y manejo de sus recursos naturales y a las diferentes modalidades de conservación adoptados. Asimismo el papel de otros actores que en ocasiones, han apo­yado y fortalecido estas iniciativas, a veces propias, y otras veces aprendidas, pues el proceso de cambio y adaptación es otra lec­ción necesaria para la conservación

One of the major and growing environmental challenges of the 21st century will be the rehabilitation and restoration of forests and degraded lands. But the success of such restoration requires careful planning. This study  provides fundamental information for the achievement of knowledge-based ecosystem restoration using native tree species and draws attention to the importance of embedding genetic considerations in restoration activities.

Mangroves provide an array of benefits to coastal communities, but in spite of their many values, mangroves in Asia continue to be converted to other land uses and sustainable financing for their protection has not been forthcoming.

It is only recently that the immense economic value of pollination to agriculture has been appreciated. This book reviews the expanding knowledge base on pollination services, providing evidence to document the status, trends and importance of pollinators to sustainable agricultural production.
