This publication aims to advance conceptual thinking and legal understanding about important law and policy tools and options for supporting the connectivity of protected area systems. The legal research and analyses reflected in this paper span international, regional, national and local levels.

Increasing incidence and intensity of natural disasters and climate change are having over-arching impacts on the environment. Sustainable development is being undermined. Ecological services and their indirect economic values are frequently omitted from assessments. Au cours de la période 2009-2012, la Global Water Initiative (GWI) en Afrique de l’Ouest, pilotée par le consortium formé de l’Union internationale pour la conservation de la nature (UICN) et l’Institut International pour l’Environnement et le Développement (IIED), a développé avec les partenaires des actions visant à promouvoir le partage des bénéfices avec les populations locales autour des réservoirs.

Drawing on a cross-section of 43 case studies prepared specially for this book, WaterWealth explains the challenges to improving water governance and management across Asia and the Pacific region. It illustrates many examples of new approaches and practices already being applied by basin managers to secure water for all. The solutions it presents are local ones—homegrown measures that build on international experience rather than transplants from elsewhere.

Many lemur species are on the very brink of extinction. Ninety-one per cent of all lemur taxa (species and subspecies) are now classified as Critically Endangered, Endangered, or Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This publication outlines a three-year strategy for the conservation of the lemurs of Madagascar. The strategy contains 30 action plans for 30 different priority sites for lemur conservation.
