This publication from IUCN and IOF is the first-ever comprehensive analysis of the state of biodiversity in 67 countries. Present on the five continents and across all oceans, the Francophonie network encompasses 29 million km2 of land and 25 million km2 of ocean. It hosts many emblematic species, such as polar bears, gorillas, okapis, lemurs, giant turtles and tortoises, European bisons and American wapitis.

Cette publication est la première grande étude sur l’état de la biodiversité dans 67 pays. Présent sur les 5 continents et tous les océans, le réseau de la Francophonie s’étend une surface terrestre de 29 millions de km2 et une surface marine de 25 millions de km2. Il abrite de nombreuses espèces emblématiques, comme les ours polaires, les gorilles, les okapis, les lémuriens, les tortues géantes d’eau douce et terrestres, les bisons européens et les wapitis américains.

Ce document de référence, réalisé par l'UICN en partenariat avec l'ONERC, offre pour la première fois une analyse comparative des 28 collectivités d'outremer de l'Union Européenne. En première partie, une analyse thématique dévoile les enjeux transversaux des collectivités et leurs menaces communes.

This background paper offers for the first time a comparative analysis of the 28 overseas entities of the European Union; its purpose is to establish the current state of existing knowledge on the impacts of climate change on the biodiversity of the European Union overseas entities. It starts with a thematic analysis presenting the transversal threats on overseas entities in the face of climate change.

This report assesses the influence of agricultural policy and regional development on the biodiversity of three selected countries: Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, and proposes directions for change. It aims at influencing policy-making in selected issues related to the agriculture sector to better conserve biodiversity in agricultural landscapes in Europe.

Agriculture is one of the most important influences on biological diversity. Conventional agriculture has heavily contributed to reducing the diversity of ecosystems, species and genes, but it has also created new diversity. The eighth Interactive Session of the 2nd World Conservation Congress dealt with a broad spectrum of agricultural issues from around the world and examined the linkages between biodiversity, economy and society.

Rock climbing is a continent-wide phenomenon. Any ban on climbing in one country invevitably leads to increased pressure on sites in other countries. Thus, regional if not continent-wide approaches are essential to identify sites where restrictions on climbing may be necessary, and to justify, negotiate, and publicise these restrictions (which are often temporary or seasonal). This report examines the history of climbing and its social and economic significance.

Cooperation at the scale of entire mountain ranges, whether through formal agreements or regional institutions, is widely acknowledged to be desirable. The Caucasus, generally better known for conflict than cooperation, is a major centre of biological, landscape, and cultural diversity.
