From policy to implementation : decisions from the fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, Nairobi, Kenya, 15-26 May 2000

There is a growing recognition that living well must go beyond economic and material plenty to encompass social and spiritual well-being. This book provides an introduction to the concept of human well-being as it relates to international rural development and conservation policy and practice.
This background paper surveys international experience in the development and use of mechanisms to establish and manage connectivity conservation. Specifically it seeks to provide an understanding of the range of mechanisms including laws, regulations, and other regulatory instruments and agreements which have been used in other countries to support connectivity conservation.
This document recounts the authors’ experience in participatory conservation processes that seek terrestrial biodiversity connectivity. It synthesizes at least a decade of research and practice. Its documentation of this experience hopefully can contribute to the conservation and restoration of ecological connectivity in other parts of Latin America and the world.
The aim of the report is to assess the status of the protected area network of the Republic of Korea and propose priorities for expansion to support the implementation of international and national biodiversity targets.
