Climate change

Current trends in fossil-fuel use and inefficient land use will lead to large global environmental problems with respect to climate change and biodiversity loss. Technical and economically feasible options are available to meet the challenge to avoid these problems. The main issue is that of creating institutional and policy conditions for a more sustainable economy.

This brochure is a brief presentation of highlights drawn from "Impacts of a warming Arctic", the plain language synthesis report of the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ACIA). This assessment was called for by the Arctic Council and the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC).

This consortium of five organizations is working to collect scientific evidence on wildlife and wildlife habitats. This report gives an overview of the findings, as presented to the Norwich Conference: Climate Change and Wildlife, in September 1999.

This report takes another look at the costs of adapting to climate change. The estimates for 2030 used by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change are likely to be substantial under-estimates. Professor Martin Parry and his co-authors look at the estimates from a range of perspectives.

This paper is intended to provide some guidance to the policy-oriented researchers’ work on valuing climate change adaptation in developing countries.

The working conference had as its principal theme to learn about the science of adaptation and mitigation, and related issues of biodiversity conservation issues in the context of United Nations' climate change negotiations.
