4 returns, 3 zones, 20 years presents a holistic and practical business framework that uses a common language, and – based on science, technology and social stakeholder management tools -- aims to establish Ecosystem Restoration Partnerships between people living on the land, companies, investors, governments and business schools, to restore degraded ecosystems that gives multiple returns, while teaching practical lessons and reaching international restoration targets.
For more than half a century, many natural habitats in the Czech Republic have been affected by destructive human activities or conversely, by abandonment, decreasing their quantity (area) as well as their quality (biodiversity). In response, many attempts have been made to restore some of the deteriorated sites, and studies have been made of the best ways to do so.
<p>Many sectors, including biofuels, are targeting degraded lands yet there is no singular definition of what constitutes degraded lands. This publication represents the outcome of a cross-sectoral dialogue and builds on existing experiences both with the agricultural and biofuel sectors, as well as that of landscape restoration more broadly.
This report is a contribution to the UN's International Year of Biodiversity and is a complement to the UNEP-hosted Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) which is bringing visibility to the wealth of the world's natural capital. It documents over 30 successful case studies referencing thousands of restoration projects ranging from deserts and rainforests to rivers and coasts.
