Cette brochure est le compte rendu, le plus fidèle possible et parfois amélioré ensuite par les intervenants, du colloque organisé à Paris-VIII en février 1983 par l'association des journalistes-écrivains pour la nature et l'écologie et le groupe de recherche de la filière écologie de l'université de Paris-VIII.

Die Wasserrahmenrichtlinie (Water Framework Directive), die Fauna-Flora-Habitatrichtlinie (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) und die Vogelschutz-richtlinie (Birds Directive) sind wesentliche Säulen einer europäischen Umweltpolitik. Conservation can best be achieved when conservation values are part of the mainstream of society, when they “become part of everyone’s decisions” including government, private enterprise and the community as a whole. This was recognized by the more than 320 participants from Pacific island governments, Pacific and international organizations and community groups when they met in Rarotonga, Cook Islands in July 2002 for the 7th Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas.

Mit der Verabschiedung des UN-Übereinkommens über die biologische Vielfalt im Jahr 1992 und dem Bundesnaturschutzgesetz (BNatSchG) von 2002 hielt der Begriff „biologische Vielfalt“ Einzug in die Naturschutzkonzeptionen in Deutschland. Seine Bedeutung wird durch die Nationale Strategie zur biologischen Vielfalt, die im Jahr 2007 von der Bundesregierung beschlossen wurde, konkretisiert.
