Across the globe, women are heavily involved in the environmental sector, including in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and in adapting to and mitigating climate change. However, women's participation and representation in decision-making processes that pertain to their and their families' environmental well-being are often restricted.
This is the eighth in Plan’s annual "Because I am a girl" report series, which assesses the current state of the world's girls. Pathways to Power: Creating Sustainable Change for Adolescent Girls investigates the notion of power through research, interviews and the voices of girls themselves. Who holds it? Where and how does it operate? Does power always protect the status quo and reinforce existing inequalities, or can it be a force for positive change?
This document seeks to provide an overview of the relationship between gender and realisation of the Convention on Biological Diversitys objectives, in particular the objective on the fair and equitable sharing of benefits derived from access to and use of biological and genetic resources and traditional knowledge. This document is intended to assist those engaged in promoting gender equity and equality in CBD actions.
