The Niger Delta region of Nigeria is facing severe environmental challenges due to widespread oil extraction activities, resulting in recurring oil spills and adverse effects on biodiversity, ecosystem services and livelihoods. This report documents the implementation of protocols of the IUCN Niger Delta Biodiversity Technical Advisory Group (BTAG) on two impacted sites at Adibawa Well 8 S/L wellhead in Joinkrama, Rivers State, and Adibawa North-East 1 wellh

The IUCN Restoration Barometer is a tool used by governments to monitor and record progress towards restoration goals in various terrestrial ecosystems, coasts, and inland waters. This document presents a synthesis of the results of the Restoration Barometer’s application in three countries: Guatemala (2011-2020), El Salvador (2014-2021), and Costa Rica (2011-2020).

El Barómetro de la Restauración de la UICN es una herramienta utilizada por gobiernos para monitorear y registrar el avance en sus objetivos de restauración en diversos ecosistemas terrestres,  costas y aguas continentales. Este documento presenta una síntesis de los resultados de la aplicación del Barómetro de la Restauración en tres países: Guatemala (periodo 2011-2020), El Salvador (periodo 2014-2021) y Costa Rica (periodo 2011-2020).

Protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) are important to stop the global decline in biodiversity. Systematic site-based monitoring of the state of biodiversity and conservation outcomes is necessary for evidence-based adaptive management in protected areas and OECMs.

In rangelands and grasslands, land degradation has an immediate and local impact by disrupting ecosystems from functioning, threatening livelihoods and negatively affecting social cohesion. It also threatens productivity while dovetailing with the threats of climate change in these ecologically fragile areas. The understanding of land degradation in rangelands and grasslands is weak, which is attributed to a lack of robust data and a misunderstanding of management objectives.

One of the main challenges for conservation today is monitoring and understanding changes in biodiversity. Genetic diversity provides the foundation for biodiversity and is necessary for long-term survival, adaptation, and resilience not only for individuals, but also for populations, species, and entire ecosystems.

These guidelines offer an approach for developing a corporate-level biodiversity strategic plan, including measurable goals and objectives and a set of core linked  indicators, that will allow companies to measure their biodiversity performance across their operations. The Guidelines can be used by any company in any sector that has impacts and dependencies on biodiversity, whether large or small, national or multinational.
