Evaluation économique de l'écotourisme : parc national des oiseaux du Djoudj au Sénégal

This report presents the results of an economic study of the willingness to pay (WTP) of recreational visitors to the Djoudj National Bird Park in northern Senegal, based on interviews with 647 visitors to the park conducted in early 2003. The study forms part of a broader economic analysis of the costs and benefits of the park.
Wetlands are vital to the livelihoods of hundred of millions of people residing in the Lower Mekong region, and particularly to the food security of many of the rural poor. This document reports on a study whose aim was to provide guidance on the use of environmental economic assessment methodologies to support wetlands management for poverty alleviation.
This paper presents the findings of a series of biodiversity assessments conducted in the Anawilundawa wetland sanctuary from September 2003-January 2004. Based on these finding, recommendations have been made on how to manage the water in the wetland, establish a biodiversity monitoring programme, implement awareness raising activities and to promote regulated ecotourism in the area, in close collaboration with the local communities.

Lake Naivasha is a rare example of a designated Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar Site) where the mandate to manage the site resides with the local community. Community members led the effort to seek designation for the site and develop a management plan. A voluntary association of concerned residents and commercial, agricultural, administrative and municipal interests meets regularly to discuss progress and matters arising in the implementation of the management plan.
This UN List is the thirteenth produced since 1962 and the first version to attempt a comprehensive presentation of all the worlds known protected areas. The introductory text presents an analysis and the accompanying CD lists more than 102,000 sites covering 18.8 million sq. km. Significant progress has been made in conserving representative areas of the worlds terrestrial biomes, although some, including Lake Systems and Temperate Grasslands, remain under-represented.
Brinda un panorama sobre los humedales de importancia internacional de Centroamérica y ha tratado de analizar el cumplimiento de parte de las instituciones encargadas de su gestión, de las directrices que dicta la Convención de humedales respecto a los planes de manejo de estos diversos sitios.
