The situation analysis studies assessed the current water governance frameworks encompassing policies, legal and regulatory frameworks, and institutional and decision-making aspects, for the three countries. The Situation Analyses of the Wami and Ruvu (including coastal rivers) sub-basins were produced as separate analyses of the status, conditions and key issues affecting ecosystems in each basin using existing available information. The analyses provide information on natural resources (including water), socio-economic issues and the governance structure of water resource management.

The Livelihoods and Landscapes Strategy (LLS) seeks to influence the ways in which forests are managed and used. It intends to leverage real and meaningful improvements in the livelihoods of the rural poor, enhance biodiversity conservation, and ensure the sustainable supply of forest goods and services. These goals are founded on a strong recognition of the close relationship between people’s economic wellbeing, and the status and integrity of forests.

Biodiversity plays an important role in the day-to-day life of a hotel. From the food in the restaurant and wood in furniture and fittings, to the amenities in the spa, the products of biodiversity are everywhere inside hotels. Outside, plants and animals make a hotel’s public areas and gardens attractive for guests, while beyond the hotel gate, national parks, green spaces, coasts and natural habitats provide guests with opportunities for recreation and enjoyment.

The objectives of the first edition of the Pangani situation analysis included identifying the resources that occupy the Pangani River Basin (PRB) and the processes and events that affect them, and identifying a series of broad action areas wherein interventions may feasibly be delivered. A second edition was needed to take into account the operation of the Water Resource Management Act in July 2009.
