Mediterranean reflections : activity report 2011

Although there is a common agreement on the importance of conservation of Mediterranean submarine canyons amongst international organizations, their governance is complex: the canyons' extension covers waters and seabeds under various types of jurisdictions (territorial waters, Fisheries Protection Zone, Ecological Protection Zone, including delimitation issues).
This document is a summary of the technical report on the current state of affairs in the Mediterranean basin. It describes the specific characteristics of the Mediterranean Sea and the phenemenon of climate change observed on the scale of this particular region. It then presents five species of Magnoliophyta documented in its waters.
Este documento es un resumen del informe técnico sobre esta temática en la cuenca mediterránea. Describe las especificidades del mar Mediterráneo y el fenómeno del cambio climático observado a escala de esta región. Presenta igualmente las características de las cinco especies de Magnoliofitas presentes en sus aguas.
Esta publicación de la Lista Roja resume los resultados de los mamíferos terrestres mediterráneos, al tiempo que ofrece la primera visión general del estado de conservación de estas especies para cumplir las directrices de catalogación regional de la Lista Roja de la UICN. Identifica así las especies que están amenazadas de extinción a nivel regional a fin de que se puedan realizar las acciones de conservación apropiadas para mejorar su estado.
Cette publication de la Liste rouge synthétise les résultats obtenus pour les mammifères terrestres méditerranéens et offre une première vue densemble du statut de conservation de ces espèces conformément aux Lignes directrices pour lapplication, au niveau régional, des Critères de lUICN pour la Liste rouge (UICN 2003).
During recent years there has been increasing interest in restoring the forest landscapes of Lebanon. A number of initiatives supporting different reforestation activities are being developed in the country. Most initiatives, however, have been focusing on no more than three tree species, partly because of the lack of technical references for native species production.
This report describes a rapid assessment of Important Plant Areas in the south and east Mediterranean; a project designed to provide the wild plant perspective for the regional investment strategy of the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund. The project partnership of IUCN, Plantlife International and WWF with botanical teams from Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, Syria and Albania, was supported by the French Development Agency.
