This report presents the results of a broad assessment of freshwater diversity in the Douro river basin in Spain and Portugal. The Douro river basin is the largest of the Iberian Peninsula, and an ecological region of great value due to the high diversity of ecosystems and the number of species. A total of 14 sites, either identified as Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) or potential KBA sites, were surveyed for fish and macroinvertebrate species.

Wetlands are among the world’s most productive and valuable ecosystems and are an integral part of many ecosystems. This book attempts to raise awareness on the relevance of wetland systems and their current impacts and existency threats in different regions of the world. It aims at describing the status, challenges and loss of wetlands related to conflicts between anthropic activities and natural ecosystem services fundamental for people’s livelihoods.

This document provides a review of existing literature around women’s roles in local economies, cultural preservation and environmental conservation in the Mediterranean Basin. The paper further identifies data gaps and economic opportunities to support cultural practices in the region’s cultural landscapes.

For the first time a comprehensive overview of geo-conservation in Europe has been presented in a book. Geoheritage in Europe and its Conservation includes specific contributions from 37 countries focussing on legislation and geoconservation practices. The only record of the history of our planet lies in the rocks beneath our feet: rocks and the landscape are the memory of the Earth.

Este XII Informe sobre Derechos Humanos de la Federación Iberoamericana de Ombudsman, relativo al derecho al agua, tiene, como hemos señalado en ocasiones anteriores, un doble objetivo, interno y externo. A brioflora de Portugal Continental integra um total de 704 taxa (incluindo espécies, subespécies e algumas variedades consideradas taxonomicamente importantes). Compreende cerca de 40% das espécies europeias e quase 65% de todos os briófitos ibéricos sendo estes organismos indicados como um dos grupos de plantas mais antigo, com grande importância ecológica, fundamentais para a manutenção da biodiversidade dos ecossistemas.
