This document provides a helpful reference for use in trade and environment issues. Using fisheries as an issue requiring urgent attention, it illustrates a range of conservation issues in the trade agenda including subsidies, eco-labels, and trade barriers.

Vision for water and nature : a world strategy for conservation and sustainable management of water resources in the 21st century

The Vision for Water and Nature is the "environment and ecosystems" component of the World Water Vision exercise of the World Water Council. It represents the first meaningful attempt to fully integrate environment issues into the development of a comprehensive strategy for water resource management at the global level. The vision was developed by IUCN through an extensive consultation effort based on three thematic workshops on freshwater ecosystem management and social, economic and environmental security, respectively.

Ecoetiquetado y pesca sostenible

There is international consensus that many of the world's commercial fisheries are in distress. Eco-labelling schemes are increasingly perceived as a way to simultaneously maintain productivity and economic value of fisheries while providing incentives for improved fisheries management and the conservation of marine biodiversity. This review provides an overview of issues to be addressed for effective fisheries eco-labeling schemes, targeting policy makers, private industry and civil society.

Etiquetage écologique et pêches durables

Il existe un consensus international concernant l’état inquiétant de la pêche commerciale. Les mécanismes d’étiquetage écologique sont perçus de plus en plus comme un moyen de conserver la productivité et la valeur économique de la pêche tout en encourageant une meilleure gestion de la pêche et la conservation de la biodiversité marine. Cette étude donne un aperçu des problèmes qui doivent être résolus pour permettre des mécanismes efficaces d’étiquetage écologique, et s’adresse aux décideurs, au secteur privé et à la société civile.
