The full range of economic, social and environmental costs and benefi ts of large scale mining (LSM) and artisanal and small scale mining (ASM) remain unclear in Karamoja.

The Draft International Covenant on Environment is an ongoing contribution of the International Council of Environmental Law (ICEL) and the IUCN Environmental Law Programme (IUCN ELP)  to provide a framework for implementing sustainability at all levels of society following the outcome of the Rio+20 Conference, and subsequent adoption of the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This guide is designed as a consultation tool for environmental journalists in the Mediterranean region. It provides an overview of the main environmental according to experts from various institutions, and the challenges that those threats pose at present and in the future. In addition, it deals with the specificities of the legal and governance framework in the region.

Esta guía se ofrece como una herramienta de consulta para los periodistas ambientales de la región mediterránea. Hace un repaso a través de los expertos consultados procedentes de distintas instituciones sobre los principales problemas ambientales que afronta el Mediterráneo, así como por los retos que esas amenazas plantean en el presente y en el futuro. A continuación se abordan las peculiaridades del marco legal y de gobernanza que existe en la región.
