This document is a proposal to Holcim Ltd. to establish a Biodiversity Management System (BMS) for its worldwide operations and to implement it in a consistent and professional manner, by creating the necessary instruments and making appropriate provisions to integrate biodiversity considerations into policy, strategic and operational processes.

This publication has been prepared as part of the Flow Assessment Component of the Pangani River Basin Management Project. Its aim is to collect and synthesize present knowledge on the Pangani River system and its users, and to help promote an integrated approach to future water-allocation decisions. It reports on the condition of the river system in the 2006 dry and wet seasons and identifies key areas of concern.

The objectives of the first edition of the Pangani situation analysis included identifying the resources that occupy the Pangani River Basin (PRB) and the processes and events that affect them, and identifying a series of broad action areas wherein interventions may feasibly be delivered. A second edition was needed to take into account the operation of the Water Resource Management Act in July 2009.

This publication aims to further raise awareness about the value of transboundary conservation, highlighting the many benefits transboundary cooperation generates, while not neglecting the challenges and problems parties encounter when they engage in transboundary initiatives.

This publication provides an in-depth review of the status of implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and of specific strategies and plans as part of CBD-determined National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAP) at national levels.

Community Environmental Action Planning (CEAP) is a stripped-down and simple participatory approach that has been used successfully over several years, and in a variety of forms, to introduce a greater degree of participation into environmental planning.

This paper outlines the progress of the East Asian region towards the goals adopted in the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA) and in the implementation of the Regional Action Plan for the Protected Areas of East Asia (RAP); findings of which arose from the East Asia workshop on implementation of the CBD Programme of Work on Protected Areas (CBD PoWPA), the ‘East Asia workshop’.
