Qualified, competent and committed staff are central to the success of protected areas. Training of protected area (PA) staff is more and more recognized as a vital component of efficient protected area management. As well as being an essential tool at local, regional and national levels, capacity building for PAs now has a strong international context and is being embedded into major global conventions and PA-related decisions.

This report reviews the conservation status of all native marine fishes occurring in the Mediterranean Sea, based on the assessments for 513 species and 6 subspecies using the IUCN’s Red List methodology. It identifies those marine fish species that are threatened with extinction at the regional level so that appropriate conservation actions can be taken to improve their conservation status.

This publication provides an overview of the world’s shared water resources and insights for managing these resources. Using case studies from around the world, it describes the benefits to be gained from cooperation and the challenges of constructing legal frameworks, institutions, management processes and financing and partnership strategies to govern transboundary waters equitably and sustainably.

A presente síntese compara para os quatro países o histórico e as perspectivas da exploração mineira, os quadros jurídicos e regulamentares relativos ao meio ambiente, as características ambientais e sociais das zonas estudadas, os estudos sociais e ambientais do estado inicial e estudo de impacto ambiental.

This knowledge handbook, produced in the framework of the Regional Environmental Education Programme of PRCM, describes the coastal and marine environment of the countries involved in this programme (Mauritania, Senegal, Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea and Sierra Leone). It is mainly directed to teachers so as to help them transmit to the youth the great value of their common heritage and the necessity to conserve it for future generations.
